Our Values

As scientists and engineers, we have an obligation to create and maintain fairness, veracity, and candor at all times.

It is imperative, now more than ever, that we rise to the challenge and remove structures of marginalization within our community.

LEGOS invite you to join us in the fight by building and safeguarding a diverse, inclusive, and equitable workspace for everyone.

Why do we emphasize multi-dimensionality?

Two ants walking in opposite directions on a two-dimensional sheet of graphene will never meet. However, they can do so with ease if a third dimension were added that allowed 2D graphene lattice to be rolled into a 3D carbon nanotube.

Additional dimensions often bring fresh perspectives and out-of-box solutions to difficult problems.

Chemical Engineering is not JUST about engineering chemistry.

LEGOS is committed to People-First Engineering. We believe a diverse and inclusive laboratory is not only a moral imperative, it also provides the solid foundation on which we will solve society’s greatest challenges.

Solid Engineering Fundamentals
Our mission as a group is to push the frontiers of science and extend the boundary of human knowledge that contribute towards the smarter and more sustainable integration of electronics in the society.

Central to any good engineering practices are transparency and trustworthiness.

We seek to cultivate intellectually curious and socially conscious minds, and encourage humility, patience, and deliberation in our scientific practice.

Convergence of Disciplines
Establishing a new generation of electrical materials that synergies with the microelectronic infrastructure necessitates an interdisciplinary approach combining expertise in chemistry, chemical engineering, electrical engineering, robotic control, and materials science.

By laying the foundation towards algorithmic materials, LEGOS will generate new opportunities in environmental science, biomedical engineering, distributed computing and human-machine interface.

We aspire to create collaborative solutions to pressing societal challenges, as well as the collaborative environment that brings to bear the myriad of life experiences from colleagues with different academic backgrounds.

Equity-Centered Global Perspectives
It is our priority to uphold a laboratory environment where every individual is greeted with open-mindedness and respect, regardless of race, gender, creed, nationality, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic status.

We believe excellence is independent of background, and a diverse community is conducive to the generation and dissemination of novel ideas.

It is essential that all members of our lab recognize the inherent value of diversity, equity, and inclusion in addition to the numerous benefits to academic research and community wellbeing they provide.
